A Brush with Big Heads: Contemporary Portrait Art
In “A Brush with Big Heads,” I invite you to experience the playful and vibrant world of contemporary portrait art. These larger-than-life 4ft by 4ft portraits are a boundary-pushing celebration of the vibrant and energetic individuality of my subjects.
At the core of this series is the transformation of people I know into larger-than-life, stylized characters. I meticulously contour-cut their painted portraits, enabling them to wield their own gigantic heads at head-height in photos. This playful distortion is comically charming, and challenges the conventional notion of scale, encouraging viewers to see the familiar in an entirely new light.
My art is a celebration of color, vibrancy, and audacious personality. I embrace a palette rich in juicy oranges, hot pinks, and electric greens, creating a visual feast that defies the ordinary and boldly underscores the uniqueness of the individuals depicted. The brushwork I employ is intentionally visible and at times geometric, saturating each work with a wild energy and dimension.
My paintings are raw and refined, imperfect and beautiful. They are a testament to the multifaceted nature of my subjects and of the human experience.
